Morton Memorial is known on the mountain as the hub of many vital ministries, made possible by generous giving and partnerships with the South Cumberland Community Foundation, the University of the South's Office of Civic Engagement, Mountain Top, St. Thomas Medical Partners' Mobile Health Unit, VISTA and local Rotary groups, among others. Morton's facilities, completed in 2019, made possible more community involvement like Al-Anon meetings and Diabetes Seminars, for example.
Morton's Food Ministry operates the Second Saturday of Every Month, beginning at 8 a.m. and closing around 10 a.m. There are no requirements for eligibility but you will need a photo ID. Since the pandemic, distribution is being done with a drive-up system. People will check you in and then put groceries in your car/truck.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED
Not only are volunteers necessary on Food Distribution Days, but also on the Thursday and Friday before the 2nd Saturday, when help is needed to offload and set up for Saturdays. Contact the office at email@example.com to get on a list to volunteer on all of those days.
Mobile Health Clinic
Exams for acute illnesses, annual physicals, well-child exams, flu shots, and limited medications are provided free of charge. The Mobile Clinic is open parked in Tracy City. Call Morton UMC to find out its location.
AA and Al-Anon
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is for those struggling with alcohol addiction and Al-Anon provides support for their families. AA meets on Sundays at 6:30 pm. Al-Anon meetings are held at 6:p.m. every Thursday night at the building between the church and the CVS.
There are two Adult Bible Study classes plus Children's and Youth Sunday School Classes. They meet in the education building beginning at 9:45am on Sundays. For more specifics, contact Pastor Melisa (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Bob Askew (email@example.com).
Pastor Melisa offers short-term counseling, pre-marital counseling (free for members) and mentoring. If you need ongoing personal counseling (more than three sessions), she will refer you to local, licensed professionals. Contact her directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
During the school year, Morton offers a healthy and tasty Wednesday meal for $10, beginning at 5:15 p.m. and then a Bible study beginning at 6 p.m.
